I have thoroughly enjoyed painting my Skaven army so far. The task was very daunting at first, with almost 200 miniatures to paint. Skaven armies are not small, rat lives are cheap after all.
I continued painting these using the same techniques I had with the first units in
Part 1 specifically continuing to use predominantly washes to paint the miniatures. I did use GW Mournfang brown on the shields as the basecoat rather than use just washes, and I'm happy with the results. I also decided to vary the Zenithol highlight i applied to the miniatures. roughly half were highlighted with liquitex white ink, and the other half I used Ghost Grey primer. In both cases this was over a red brown primer. You can see the difference in skin tones achieved below. this is after 2 washes of 1 part Seraphim Sepia and 1 part Lahmian medium. I did this to create a bit of variety in the units.

I had been intending to make a start on my skaven slaves as well, the weather however conspired against me. The heat was making the white and grey paints dry really fast and i had to unclog my airbrush 5 or 6 times before i gave up and decided to call it quits. i did manage to get 75 more miniatures painted, with only the bases remaining to be completed on the whole force. All told, I spent between an hour and 90 minutes painting each evening last week, for a total of about 5-6 hours, which means I spent about 12 hours to paint just over a hundred miniatures so far. basing I expect to take about another hour as all i'm doing is adding GW stirland mud which I am then going to drybrush and maybe add some grass tufts.

Next on the painting desk will be whats left, 2 units of stormvermin, 20 old(ish) metal ones, and a set of the newer plastics. I honestly prefer the newer plastic miniatures, and i've added Verminus Spiteclaw's Swarm to the mix to add a bit of variety and provide me with a distinctive warlord that isn't from the Island of blood set. I'll go into him in more depth when I paint him as i've done a bit of work on the base. I'm also not going to speedpaint any of the characters or remaining weapons teams. I could to get them done quickly, but i'd like to spend a bit more time on them and make them stand out from the swarm.
After that, the only things left are the Night runners, and the remainder of the skavenslaves that need to be assembled. The old plastic multipart kits are (imo) awful, and I will no doubt be getting rid of them when I get suitable replacements. I'm going to get the whole lot painted before I buy anything else for this army though.
I'll keep on painting, and hope to have the next batch done in about another week.
Thanks for reading, and keep painting.
