I've had a somewhat slow week due to real life things happening, but I have made some progress and have almost a full Battle Demi-Company of Primaris marines painted. I somehow forgot to assemble 5 of the Assault Intercessors from the Indomitus boxed set, so they are next on the to do list. I also ran out of technical paint with which to base them, which is nice....
| First attempt at adding battle damage to Ultramarines |
I tried something different to how I've been painting the marines till now, and used a sponge to apply the base colour of Macragge blue over a washed down base coat. It has really added texture to the models, and the shading it creates is something i'm really happy with. The painted on battle damage I'm not so happy with, but it does the job and from a distance looks pretty OK, so i'm not going to lose sleep over it. I do however know how not to do it, and the effect varies in quality, improving on the minis I painted last over those I painted first..
I'm also about half way through painting up the Bladeguard veterans and the new Lieutenant from the Indomitus set, so I plan on getting these done quickly as well.
| More bling than usual |
What remains afterwards is to complete the second half of the 2nd Battle Company, and this half will be made up entirely of firstborn marines. I'm going to try to speed paint these marines and put into use a lot of the things I learned when painting my Skaven. It's generally the big centre piece models that attract the most attention on the table, so you can get away with not investing as much time into the rank and file. As long as you are neat you can save a lot of time by missing out certain steps on your most numerous troops. It will also make the miniatures you do spend 50 hours on pop more on the tabletop.
