Ultramarines: 2nd Battle Company

With 9 hours of the year remaining, I managed to get my Ultramarine Battle Company finished. I had a minor mishap a few days ago when i broke my airbrush, so there are a few Rhino's I wasn't able to paint, but the important units, the actual marines themselves are all present and accounted for. This puts my army in an excellent position to be expanded in the future, with the majority of the troops I will be using painted. There are holes in the force, obviously. There is an obvious lack of Primaris Vehicles and Dreadnoughts, and the army is distinctly lacking in fast attack units. Company Command  The thing it took me the longest to decide was what units to include in the core of the Battle Company, and in the end I decided on a 50/50 split between Primaris and Firstborn. This will allow me to field armies of either, and I made sure to include the correct unit markings on each squad. Making the whole army Codex Compliant was a major goal for me. The only Company Command Unit...

Infinity: Getting back in the groove. And some painting

I've not had as much time as i would have liked recently to paint and play games. Real life has a tendency to get in the way of hobbies at times. That isn't to say I've been idle, however. I played my first game of Infinity N4 against a good friend, and I made some progress with my Ultramarines Haqqislam force ready to go Speed painting Ultramarines is a much different prospect than Skaven. I previously managed to paint about a hundred rat men in a  little over 12 hours . Ultramarines are a much different proposition, having much cleaner lines, and requiring a higher degree of care. not to mention the application of transfers Battle Demi Company I finished off the basing of my Eradicators, and I did the majority of the work, sans basing, on the assault squad, which leaves a mere 40 marines (30 tactical and 10 devastator) left to finish, plus a few characters. A kit bashed lieutenant, and the limited edition Imperial Space Marine. Melta Goodness   If i have one regrte with t...

Crusade Campaign: The ritual: Ultramarines vs Death Guard

The Ultramarines, having cleared the settlement of agents of the Genestealer cult receive reports from their scouts that the death guard, after their defeat at the hands of the Custodes are nearby, and attempting to complete a ritual to raise the dead, slaughtered by the GSC, as pox walkers. Will the ultramarines be able to prevent the ritual from being completed, or will the Death Guard be successful and increase the threat they pose to Lainus J5V? Will the Ultramarines be able to stop the Death Guard ritual? This is the third battle in a crusade campaign between the armies of the Imperium, and the threat posed by the agents of the dark gods and the insidious xenos that inhabit the Warhammer 40k universe. You can find the first battle between the Adeptus Custodes and Death Guard here , and the second blood soaked battle between the Ultramarines and the Genestealer cults here This time, the Ultramarines will face down the Death Guard as they attempt to enact a ritual to raise a...

Ultramarines: Completing the Demi Company - Making progress

I've had a somewhat slow week due to real life things happening, but I have made some progress and have almost a full Battle Demi-Company of Primaris marines painted. I somehow forgot to assemble 5 of the Assault Intercessors from the Indomitus boxed set, so they are next on the to do list. I also ran out of technical paint with which to base them, which is nice.... First attempt at adding battle damage to Ultramarines I tried something different to how I've been painting the marines till now, and used a sponge to apply the base colour of Macragge blue over a washed down base coat. It has really added texture to the models, and the shading it creates is something i'm really happy with. The painted on battle damage I'm not so happy with, but it does the job and from a distance looks pretty OK, so i'm not going to lose sleep over it. I do however know how not to do it, and the effect varies in quality, improving on the minis I painted last over those I painted first....

Warhammer 40k Crusade. Ultramarines versus Genestealer Cult: Recon Patrol

This is the second battle in our Crusade series, and we will see the insidious sneaky Genestealer cultists face off against some space marines in what promises to be a blood drenched encounter. I had planned to have my whole marine force painted for the battle, but alas real life intervened and I was not able to get them as far as I liked. Nevertheless, as this is not a competition, and my opponent’s army is in a similar state, no harm no foul. We both selected our crusade armies up to the 50PL limit, and spent a few of the requisition points on relics and warlord traits. I can only give commentary on my list. Ultramarines 2 nd Company. I wanted to Include at least some of the new units from Indomitus in my army. Indomitus is quite character heavy, and selecting a force for a crusade mission requires you abide by the restrictions of the force organisation chart, in this case a battalion. You can only pick units from your crusade roster, but there is quite a lot of freedom as y...
