Ultramarines: 2nd Battle Company

With 9 hours of the year remaining, I managed to get my Ultramarine Battle Company finished. I had a minor mishap a few days ago when i broke my airbrush, so there are a few Rhino's I wasn't able to paint, but the important units, the actual marines themselves are all present and accounted for. This puts my army in an excellent position to be expanded in the future, with the majority of the troops I will be using painted. There are holes in the force, obviously. There is an obvious lack of Primaris Vehicles and Dreadnoughts, and the army is distinctly lacking in fast attack units.

Company Command
The thing it took me the longest to decide was what units to include in the core of the Battle Company, and in the end I decided on a 50/50 split between Primaris and Firstborn. This will allow me to field armies of either, and I made sure to include the correct unit markings on each squad. Making the whole army Codex Compliant was a major goal for me. The only Company Command Units I have painted now though are all Primaris, which does pose a few issues. fortunately (or unfortunately..) with games in the near future unlikely, I have ample opportunity to rectify this.

Primaris Demi Company
The first Demi Company is of course the Primaris units, mostly because I painted up a few squads of Intercessors first, and consists of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 7th and 9th Squads, Plus a Lieutenant, and there is a squad of Hellblasters from the 9th Reserve company in there as well. There are plenty of units to form the core of an army, and together with the Company Command, it makes quite a credible force on the tabletop

First Born Demi Company

The second half of the Battle Company is the first born marines of  the 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th and 10th squads. and the now bordering on obsolescent Vehicles based on the Rhino chassis. There are plenty more of them to come, and out of the 2 demi companies, the Firstborn are the ones that I can completely mechanize once I get some replacement parts for my airbrush.

Overall, I'm happy with what I've done, and now that the majority of the core units of the army are done, I can concentrate on more interesting units, and paint them up as and when needed. Most obviously is the lack of fast attack the army has, together with the distinct lack of large Primaris models, so the inceptors, Suppressors and the Executioner will be the first things to get done in the new year. Ultramarines aren't my only project however, and now that I have a very respectable force done, they will likely take a back seat to other things I want to get painted.

Next up for the Ultramarines
