Ultramarines: Completing the Demi Company - Making progress

I've had a somewhat slow week due to real life things happening, but I have made some progress and have almost a full Battle Demi-Company of Primaris marines painted. I somehow forgot to assemble 5 of the Assault Intercessors from the Indomitus boxed set, so they are next on the to do list. I also ran out of technical paint with which to base them, which is nice.... First attempt at adding battle damage to Ultramarines I tried something different to how I've been painting the marines till now, and used a sponge to apply the base colour of Macragge blue over a washed down base coat. It has really added texture to the models, and the shading it creates is something i'm really happy with. The painted on battle damage I'm not so happy with, but it does the job and from a distance looks pretty OK, so i'm not going to lose sleep over it. I do however know how not to do it, and the effect varies in quality, improving on the minis I painted last over those I painted first....

Warhammer 40k Crusade. Ultramarines versus Genestealer Cult: Recon Patrol

This is the second battle in our Crusade series, and we will see the insidious sneaky Genestealer cultists face off against some space marines in what promises to be a blood drenched encounter. I had planned to have my whole marine force painted for the battle, but alas real life intervened and I was not able to get them as far as I liked. Nevertheless, as this is not a competition, and my opponent’s army is in a similar state, no harm no foul. We both selected our crusade armies up to the 50PL limit, and spent a few of the requisition points on relics and warlord traits. I can only give commentary on my list. Ultramarines 2 nd Company. I wanted to Include at least some of the new units from Indomitus in my army. Indomitus is quite character heavy, and selecting a force for a crusade mission requires you abide by the restrictions of the force organisation chart, in this case a battalion. You can only pick units from your crusade roster, but there is quite a lot of freedom as y...

Death Guard: Plagueburst Crawler

It's not often that I agree to commission paint miniatures, but a friend of mine whose entire Death Guard army I've painted asked me to paint another Plagueburst Crawler in the same scheme to add to his army. Thankfully it's quite a simple scheme, made up predominantly of GW Death Guard Green with some metalics, After getting some inspiration from YouTube i decided to add texture to the miniature before i started. I used Tamiya Basic putty mixed with thin poly cement and applied it to a lot of surfaces. the Putty/cement mix damages the plastic and adds texture to it. The downside is that it takes about 3 minutes for the mixture to dry, so you have to be quick when applying it. You will also need to use dead brushes as applying it wrecks them. Once the putty was dry, which was almost instantly, I primed the whole thing in red brown. i picked that colour because there will be rusty bits on the finished product, and i wanted any places where the primer showed to be mistaken f...
