Infinity: Haqqislam Showcase

Infinity is a science fiction skirmish game made by Corvus Belli, a small Spanish company. It is currently my favourite table top game, and pits small special ops teams against each other in order to complete a variety of objectives and secure the ascendancy of their nation.

When I originally started playing my wife only agreed to let me start collecting a new game if she got to choose which faction I would be getting. I agreed, of course, with the secret plan, if the faction she chose was a dumpster fire, of quietly switching to another one when she wasn't looking.

I need not have worried, as the one she chose, Haqqislam is a dream to play. The miniatures, in common with all of Infinity's offering have a strong manga/anime aesthetic. The game itself is an unforgiving, brutal contest where given the great (but not perfect) balance between units and factions, victory will go to the better player. A single mistake, error in positioning, or wrong action can easily take you from being the boot. to being stepped on. Infinity is not a game you win, its a game you try not to lose. I love it!

With all that said, I thought it about time I showed off some of the great miniatures that Haqqislam has to offer, and I will be delving into the different units in more detail in later posts.

Army Showcase: Haqqislam

Ghulam infantry are one of the best basic infantry units in the game. what sets them apart from others is their high Willpower (WIP). In game terms this means that they are much better at achieving specific mission objectives. Objectives which usually require WIP to achieve. They are also expendable, which is nice.

Ghulam Infantry, the core of your force

Haqqislam is the only faction whose medics have the Doctor plus skill, this makes them the best faction, bar none, for patching up any injured troops by reattaching severed limbs and stuffing internal organs back into torsos. they also have the obligatory engineer, perfect for blowing stuff up.

Someone call a doctor?

One of the defining aspects of Haqqislam is their relative lack of any heavily armoured infantry. While other factions concentrate on improving their technology, Haqqislam troops improve the soldiers themselves through their super soldier program. the result is troops that are faster, tougher and stronger than almost any other in the game.

Haqqislam perfected the super soldier serum. meet Captain Islam

Muyibs love blowing stuff up. they are combat engineers without peer. they are pricey in points, but they make up for it by being able to litter the battlefield with anti personnel mines, demolition charges and such like. they specialize in causing havoc against anything that thinks armour will save them. they are also stubborn and will fight on till they bleed out if you injure them. you HAVE to double tap these guys to get the job done

Lets blow stuff up!

The Odalisques are bodyguards without peer. As beautiful as they are deadly. and they are all at least an 11 on the 0-10 scale. trained to ignore injuries to protect their primary, experts in close quarters combat, and packing an excessive amount of firepower. if they have one weakness, its they have almost no armour. but who needs armour when you can dodge bullets?

Beautiful and deadly

Ghazi's are the troops that everyone hates to face. Cheap and efficient they can threaten anything in the game. their drawback is they are perhaps a little too enthusiastic, you have to be very careful with them otherwise they will quickly become martyrs. their lives are brutal and short, but their deaths are often amusingly spectacular. expect them to take down what kills them as they go.

The best unit in the game

Djanbazans are a medium infantry. these are relatively rare in a Haqqislam force. slow, moderately well armoured, very well armed. their main strength is there is no hiding from them. their multispectral visors allow them to see through smoke as if it wasn't there, and see through any camouflage that a foolish opponent might try.

Lets play hide and seek, guess what, you lose!

Haqqislam is not known for their technology, but they still have access to very useful remotes on the battlefield. Inexpensive points wise, they can provide useful abilities, from sniffing out mines and infiltrators, to shutting down entire sections of the battlefield with sustained Machine gun fire.

Beep Beep

Janissaries are no frills heavy infantry. one of the few troop choices that you can take with Haqqislam with armour that is worth of the name. other than that, they are unspectacular. all the juicy stuff for Haqqislam is in the (very light) infantry category. Despite their lack of fancy equipment (outside their armour) they are good shots and have a reasonable selection of weapons to pick from

You want the best of the best of the best?

Bigger is better, the Al Fasid is even heavier heavy infantry, and it shows with the miniatures being huge. much better armoured than Janissaries, they are a niche unit (imo) but still have some useful abilities, such as being able to drop mines in your face and blow you to bits with their heavy weapons.

We will Crush you

Heavy infantry that is barely worth the name, Ayyars are relatively lightly armoured specialists who can decimate their enemies with ease. their Holoprojectors mean you have to guess which of the 3 of them is the real one. If you guess wrong (you usually will) the real one shoots you in the back of the head. totally not borrowed from Total Recall.

which is the real one?

What to you get when you genetically enhance a well trained religious fanatic, then equip him with the best weapons and armour you can afford? you get an Asawira. they are the best shots in the faction, and will not stop coming for you regardless of casualties. you have to kill them to stop them

Fast, brutal, well trained

The Fidays are a myth. The myth says that they can appear anywhere, and kill anyone. nothing can stand in their way. They are trained in every infiltration technique you can imagine, and many more you can't. Masters with every weapon, experts at all the martial arts. If a fiday is coming for you, you better put your affairs in order. You will die. Or you would if they were real, which they aren't...

Fidays don't exist...

There are so many troops to choose from, all of them excellent with their own unique features. I could go through them all, but that would require a data storage centre all by itself. I will be going over the strengths and weaknesses of individual units and give sample lists that I use at a later point. meanwhile, here are a few more troops you may, or may not recognize.

Artists impression of a fiday, they still don't exist

Please let me know what you think, and if there is anything you would like to see in the future. I have a lot of Haqqislam miniatures that are still only primed, and i will be adding these to the army over time.
